About Place Value Quest

Why it was built

Place Value Quest started with a simple problem: a child who could read 139 perfectly, but couldn’t say what the 3 was worth. The missing piece wasn’t more practice — it was a picture of how numbers are built.

What it is

A free browser game with ten worlds, from Ones Village to the Number Kingdom. Children build numbers from blocks, trade ten for one, send digits through a Digit Machine, ride a Number Elevator to a million, and solve number mysteries — guided by Digi, a friendly robot.

Who it’s for

Children aged about 7 to 10 who are learning place value, and the parents and teachers helping them.

The approach

Every number is shown first as blocks, then on a place-value board, and only then as written digits and parts. Mistakes are explained rather than marked wrong. Read how it works and the learning approach for the details.
